Honorable Holly Mitchell
Chair, Assembly Budget Subcommittee

Honorable Bob Blumenfield
Chair, Assembly Budget Committee
State Capitol
Sacramento, CA 95814
Dear Assemblymember Mitchell and Assemblymember Blumenfield,
I am writing to share my concerns with you regarding the Governor’s regional center budget cut proposal.   My child is a recipient of the North Los Angeles County Regional Center’s community-based services.  As a parent of a child with a developmental disability, I cannot stress the importance of these services for my child and for my family.
As a parent with a child who possesses a life-long disability, I understand that I must be diligent when working with my child.  However, the services and supports that the regional center has provided have been instrumental in our lives.  Not only have these services provided opportunities for my child to grow, they have allowed for myself and my family to gain the knowledge and tools to better work and interact with my child at home.  This, in turn, has allowed our family to participate in activities and events in the community that I had thought was not previously possible.   Although I cannot imagine what my life would have been without the services of our regional center, I can state with certainty that the help and support that I have received so far has not only allowed my child to become a more productive member of our society, but also an active member of our family.  And this is a price that cannot be measured in dollars or cents.
When you and your fellow assemblymembers meet to discuss these proposed cuts to the regional center, I sincerely urge you to consider how it will impact and affect the individual and their families.   Please do not overlook the importance of the regional center community-based services on the lives and the families of these individuals with special needs.

Thank you for your time and consideration
Sincerely,
