Guess My Boys' Names!

One of the most satisfying parts of blogging is reading all the comments -- they can be anything from supportive and celebratory, to thought-provoking and even hilarious. I've laughed, cried and -- on occasion -- even gotten a little ticked off. But that's the beauty of opinion, right?

One comment I got yesterday asked a very good question. (thanks anonymous)

"why do we get to know Lucy's name, but not the names of her brothers?"

When I started the blog in June of '07 , Lucy was the name of the daughter we couldn't even imagine. We knew she would complete our family but we had no idea if she even existed yet -- was she being carried at that moment by a woman halfway across the world? Little did we know she was already four months old. It seemed perfectly ok to name our original blog "Taiwan Lucy," since she was someone we hadn't even met yet. And let me tell you, that name stuck. Once I was on the phone with a blogger who contributes to momlogic and she said "YOU are Taiwan Lucy?" My daughter's name had become a little brand... and that was not intentional.

Lucy, the week we started the blog.

As it is with many families, I was concerned for my kids' safety, and hiding their names was one thing I did to keep us anonymous. But, over the past year, there have been many instances where it would be very easy to find out our last name, the boys' names, and where we live. While I want to protect them, I know the blogosphere really is never totally secure, no matter what I do to convince myself otherwise. Besides, those out there targeting kids are more likely to focus on Britney Spears' boys or Brangelina's latest addition to the brood. And frankly, you come near my kids, I can't be responsible for what my mild-mannered husband will do.

I had always planned to change the blog to "Taiwan On" when Lucy arrived home -- it's not only our way of focusing on the family as a whole and writing about other funny or challenging things that come up, but I also intended to stop using her name -- but, let's be honest, everyone knows her name and my changing it to "L" now is not going to make her anonymous.

What do you think J & B's names are?

So... here's what I'll do. In all future posts, I will refer to my boys by name. BUT before I do that, you're just going to have to guess what those names are. If you already know, please refrain from spoiling the challenge... but, if you truly don't know -- GUESS!

I would love to see what people have imagined their names to be.

Andrew, in a typical silly moment, guesses "Batman" and "Joker." However, I know better, at least for B. J. has me stumped.

Braeden & Justin are my picks. This is so funny, b/c since I didn't know their names, I just 'assigned' them their names when I read! I look forward to hearing their REAL names!

For some reason, I've always thought B is for Ben. J is a little harder. Maybe Jacob or John? I look forward to reading their real names!

HI JACKIE

I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND WHY YOU WOULD WANT TO KEEP YOUR BOYS NAMES AT BAY, IN THE BEGINNING ANYWAY, AS A PARENT, YOU JUST WANT TO KEEP THEM SAFE. I AM GLAD YOU ARE GOING TO TELL US, NOT THAT IT MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE, BUT I GUESS WE WERE ALL WONDERING WHAT LUCYS BIG BROTHERS NAMES WERE.

OK, HERE IS MY GUESS, JOSH AND BRIAN, THEY WERE THE FIRST NAMES THAT POPPED INTO MY HEAD, I HOPE I AM A LITTLE CLOSE.

HOPE ALL IS WELL, YOUR PICTURES OF THE FAMILY JUST KEEP GETTING BETTER AND BETTER.

LOVE V

J is Jayden or Jason, B is Bryce or Brandon. I have no idea but I can't wait to see what they really are!

Ben and Jacob? I like both names, so that's my guess...

Jake and Bryce?

And your reasoning for abbreviating the boys' names and using Lucy's?---- I had made that assumption... isn't that funny (so even if I'm not right on the names, I right at soemthing!) Anyway, totally makes sense. :-)

Bjorn & Joren! he he Okay those are just some Danish names my father used to say around the house and when I told my husband that I liked these names... almost passed out.

I understand leaving them anonymous... I went rounds with my hubby about this as well. I was more into stealth mode... he was, there's 2 million people in our city! I guess I'm now leaving up to... if I feel momma's intuition going into overdrive... private we go or revamp to have one private, one public without pics etc.

P.S. Snarling beasties of mamas & dads always allowed to protect their babies. =0)
