To Blog or Not to Blog

I feel conflicted about posting such personal feelings on a blog. The thought that anyone can read words that are so close to my heart is a little bit awkard. But then I remind myself of why I'm doing this. This is a diary for Lucy, to see how loved she was before we even met her. I could definitely do that without sharing it with the world but I've discovered over the past couple of years that there's enormous power in sharing experience. The joys and challenges in my life are what make me who I am. And if sharing that with another woman considering adoption or a family going through similar experiences who need to know they're not alone is helpful, then I know that putting myself out there was the right thing to do.

Through my research and meeting other families, I've discovered that the decision to adopt more times than not comes after some experience of loss. Whether it's a loss at a young age that shaped you (like me) or the loss of the ability to have biological children, or even the unthinkable tragic loss of a child -- loss and adoption often go hand-in-hand. To recognize that loss and move forward on such an incredible journey like adoption is truly a gift.

Stay tuned...

It's good to share what your experiences are. I kept my children's blog open until we picked up our daughter, then private so I would be more comfortable posting LOTS of pictures. But keeping a blog of the journey helps yourself and others too. I've enjoyed following your journey to precious little Lucy.
