"Did God Make Himself?"

Do fish sleep?

Do bees have mouths?

These are just two questions that have sent me right to Google, having no clue what the right answer was. But some questions defy a search engine. Take last night's philosophical table discussion...

"Did God Make Himself?"

There's nothing like being stumped by a six year old. I asked him to let me think about it and then came back to him with what I thought was our family's best answer. I'll reveal that answer in a bit but I want to know...

What would you have said? Comment below but PLEASE keep it respectful. I love different views and encourage you to express them but won't tolerate nasty comments on others' views.

I probably would have asked him what he thought... because if he was smart enough to ask the question, then he probably had a reason AND some thoughts on the subject.

I would say, "It's a mystery to everyone. That's why it's called faith, when we believe in God."

contemplating God is one of my favorite things to do, so after I stopping clapping that he asked the question I would start asking him what he thought of God. Little kids have no preconceived notions, their ideas are pure, and very sweet. To be able to explain that God is eternal would cause some head scratching, but helping him to understand that although God is all powerful and all knowing, he is still our father. Great times to explore your beliefs, and question them also. I love wondering...I know God is there, I know He understand me, I know He has a body, I know He is real. Use the time your son asks to talk about all the aspects of our father in heaven. It is wonderful.

I agree with "what do you think". In our house we have quite a few of these discussions. Some we just don't know the answer too and I am honest about it. The other thing, with my older child, we try to classify God questions as salvation or not salvation questions. The "non-salvation" questions quite often are the ones that we don't know the answer too and are fun to ponder.

oooo, that's a good one! If God created everything than who did indeed create God? To be honest, I have no clue what I would have answered! If you have a good response, I am all for it! :-)
