This Is Just Wrong

It's easy to look back on the history of television and advertising and see moments that, back then, seemed innocent enough but now make us cringe. Between the evolution of people -- and a little political correctness thrown in for good measure -- you would never hear or see anything like you used to a few decades ago. Shows like All in the Family and The Jeffersons got people talking about different cultures, race and addressing racism and discrimination. Sad in a way, because now people are afraid to talk about it at all.

While doing research for a story this week, I came across this little gem for Calgon on YouTube. It seems many people now are outraged by the stereotypical way the Chinese business owner is portrayed.

I've got to be honest with you. What I find most offensive -- and unacceptable -- is the way the wife completely throws her husband under the bus in front of a customer. She knew the woman was out there and that her husband had pulled a fast one. I don't care who he's swindling, save the embarrassment for when you're alone, woman. Who does that?

I bet that fake commercial couple didn't last another day.
