I'm 93 Percent Stupid

For Valentines Day, we gave the kids each a book. Immediately, Lucy went on a new adventure with her pal, Kai-lan... Brady imagined he was a Clone-stormy-trooper-thingy-majiggy... and Jacob tore into his very first Magic Tree House chapter book.

"It's 65 pages!" Jacob shrieked with an excitement usually reserved for when he completes a Wii game. We decided, "Hey, it's a special night and he's reading, so what's the big deal if he stays up a little late." I mean, come on, do you really stop a kid who's hungry for a little literary action?

Within minutes, he was turning to chapter 5.

At 8:40, we decided it was time to take a break.

"Wait, but I'm on page 60, Mom... and there are 65 pages. I am 93 percent done!"

Jeff and I stared at each other, each trying to do the math in our heads. "Well, 5 goes into 60 twelve times," I said. Jeff shrugged, too exhausted to even try.

For giggles, I ran downstairs to my computer to check it out. 65 X .93 equals...

Shut the front door, the kid was right. He's SIX. What does a parent do with that?

That is pretty darn incredible! (I've got a reader on my hands too - there have been a few nights where I've gotten caught up in my "after the kids go to bed" routine and have forgotten to go turn off her lamp and she'll just keep going and going... the record is 10:30.)
