The Blog-In continues! My guest today is Jackie Silver from AgingBackwards.com. She's almost 50 and still gets asked for I.D. to buy wine! Jackie shares her secrets, tips and shortcuts for looking and feeling young.
While your first tendency is to curse her for being so fabulous, don't waste your time hating -- she can change your life.
Being a Mom is one of the hardest jobs out there. It can encompass many jobs all bundled into one: chef, housekeeper, chauffeur, psychologist, teacher, CEO, secretary, to name a few. In fact, in 2007, Salary.com determined that if paid, Stay at Home Moms would earn $138,095 a year. That total was up 3% from 2006's salary of $134,121. Moms who have jobs outside the house would earn another $85,939 for their mothering work, beyond what they bring home in existing salary. So, with all that extra work, how can we Moms stay fabulous? Try these Aging Backwards Quick Tips, in between all your other jobs.
Quick Tips:
1) For young, glamorous hair, discover this exotic, effective line of styling, finishing and conditioning products. It's called Moroccanoil and their products include the "secret" ingredient Argan Oil, from a tree found growing only in Southwest Morocco. A true gift from nature, it's an antioxidant, UV protector and free radical fighter that does wonders for hair. The first time I tried it, I was amazed, seriously. I thought it would leave my hair greasy, it is after all an oil. My hair didn't look one bit greasy - quite the opposite! It left my hair shiny and gorgeous (shiny hair is youthful hair) and for some unknown reason, it also blow-dried in about half the time. I love Moroccanoil!!
2) Glam up your insides! You've seen the commercials advising you to take calcium daily for strong bones, but did you know there's a relationship in the body between calcium and magnesium? Research has shown that the aging body's tissues have three times more calcium than magnesium. Calcium quickly spreads out into tissues that have a deficiency in magnesium. Excess calcium in tissues has a toxic effect and a bone loss effect. Magnesium regulates the proper amount of calcium in your body and ensures it is directed toward building stronger bones. Unregulated, calcium ends up depositing in your kidneys resulting in painful kidney stones and in your coronary arteries, not in your bones where you need it most. These calcium deposits clog your arteries and make them brittle which is the road to heart disease. As we get older we become more deficient in magnesium and therefore require more in our diet and in supplement form. PeterGillham.com is a great source of natural, high-quality products.
3) No time to keep up with fashion? Hey, just because we're Moms doesn't mean we have to run around in shapeless sweat outfits, even though they are pretty comfy. Here's a tip for glamming up your Momdrobe (that's a mom-wardrobe, I just made it up, LOL): fitted clothes are more flattering, no matter what your shape. Stick with darker colors where you want a slimming effect and add classic pieces in solid colors. Here's where the "magic" happens - use accessories to glam up the outfit, rather than big design patterns on the clothes themselves. A cute scarf, some inexpensive but classy costume jewelry in designs of the season and a cute bag (or diaper bag!) with matching shoes can add just the pizzazz you're looking for. And, you probably have some get stuff in your closet right now!
So, when you're on the run constantly taking care of everyone but yourself, stop for a minute, take a deep breath and remember to take time for you. I had one friend who made every Wednesday Glam Day. Even if she was a wreck the rest of the week, she always made the effort on Wednesdays. Hey, whatever it takes, right?
