If it was the exact same money - I'd say do what I love to do and get the money that way. Because I'd be happy doing what I love. And happiness is more important than wealth. And then maybe I could make more money since I'd still do that same job. But with the lottery - the money is gone - then what?
Hmmm. . .that's a hard one. Before kids I might have answered this question differently. Today, I'm opting for the first choice, but only if that meant doing something I love that I'm NOT doing today. Something that would permit time with the family and hard work as a family. A life lesson if you will. But, hey, winning lotto wouldn't be bad either, because then I could still do what I love, and have the funding to support our cause of choice.
Assuming the $$$ amounts are close to the same, I think the satisfaction of a sense of accomplishment and the feeling after an honest day's work are priceless in themselves. Therefore, I would choose the work that I love. I'd be getting it all! Money, accomplishment, an example for my kids, and life experience. Who could ask for anything more?
I'm with Tiff - this is a hard one. To start, I'd take legal money any way I could get it. That said, there IS a certain amount of self satisfaction that comes with earning it yourself BUT I'd also love to be rolling so high in dough that I could just play with my kids all day (or have somebody else do it :) ) and spend as much as I wanted doing it.
Jackie, be honest- did you just win the lottery?! ;-)
I'd like the free money from the lotto and then use it to bank roll some dreams and giving opportunities that would set us up for life at the pace of my choice.
Honestly? I'd like the money up front. I already work really hard doing what I love and I'd use some of my winnings to make us supremely comfortable while I did this. And put the rest into a major business expansion. If it sounds like I've already thought this through, it's because I have.... Not that I would even know where to buy a ticket :-)
That's tough. I think I'd choose A. There's great fulfillment to be had in doing what you are gifted to do. It reminds me of that line from "Chariots of Fire" wherre Eric Liddell says, "When I run, I feel the pleasure of God." Hey, if I can get paid gobs to do what I love, it's icing on the cake.
That being said, it's still work and the lazybones in me thrills to the thought of winning the lottery.
Win the lottery...life is too short to work really really hard even if it's only a year - a lot can happen in one year. I'd rather be stress-free, travel and be happy. I'd probably keep everything the same anyways (job, house, etc) and put the winnings in the bank so nothing would really change except my sense of security.

The lottery....who "really" wants to work if you don't have to?!?!
I'd win the lottery and then do what I love anyway. :)
Since I don't play lotto I would work doing what I love to earn my wealth. Nothing like a hard days work.

honestly, lottery. I'd still work doing what gives me a lot of satisfaction... but I wouldn't have to work REALLY REALLY hard.

Lottery, no 2 ways about it. Trust me on this...intelligent people who win the lottery can have a VERY VERY good life.
Oh A!!! YES!! I do what I love already and to become wealthy off of it would be my dream come true.
